Takashi Komuro (小室孝,Komuro Takashi) is the main protagonist of the series. He is a second year student of Fujimi Academy, the leader and founder of the main group of survivors. He is a childhood friend of both Saya Takagi and Rei Miyamoto and while he has strong feelings of love for Rei, he also shares feelings for Saeko Busujima. Takashi is a pretty decent melee fighter, also skilled with firearms because of Kohta Hirano's tutoring. He is also shown to have good leadership skills, which often hold his group together in dire situations.

Appearance[]

Takashi large

Takashi's anime appearance

Takashi is a high school student of average height with brown eyes, spiky black hair which can occasionally have a purple hue[1] (Note: in the anime, his hair can have a brown hue).[2], and a slender yet reasonably powerful build that contributes to his agility. Takashi's attire typically consists of his black school uniform with a red T-shirt underneath. He wears various T-shirts and jeans for short periods of time,[3] but his school uniform remains his primary wardrobe. During the beach OVA he's forced to wear a extremely tight black speedo with boots.

History[]

Rei and Takashi - pinky-promise

Rei makes a pinky-promise to marry Takashi.

Takashi has been friends with Saya since they were in Kindergarten.[4] Takashi was best friends with Rei from the time they were both small children. Rei made a promise to marry him when they were children,[5] but, due to Takashi's inability to admit his feelings for her, she turned her attention away from him and towards Hisashi instead. Shortly before the Outbreak, Rei began dating Hisashi, and Takashi, realizing he had waited too long, was sad that Rei chose Hisashi over him.

Personality[]

High school dead takashi komuro 04

Takashi as he appears in the manga

In the time before the Outbreak, Takashi is laid-back and does not mind skipping class, an attitude that earns him distaste from Saya.[6] His casual nature can also make him hesitant, evidenced by the fact that he did not act on his feelings for Rei until it was too late. His passionate feelings are displayed when he is genuinely depressed by Rei choosing Hisashi over him, especially considering she had promised to marry him when they got older.[5]

Takashi is usually kind to the other members of his group, and he does not hesitate to save people who are in serious trouble, such as Alice Maresato when she is attacked by "them".[7] Rei states that his selflessness is one of the reasons she initially fell for him, and was a reminder that they were still human even after the Outbreak. However, Takashi is also very reckless and often fails to consider the consequences of his actions.

During the initial Outbreak, Takashi fights strictly for survival, but, as time passes, he begins to show a willingness to fight for himself and the group rather than just for the need to survive.[8] Saya has mentioned that he and Kohta are likely to snap if their situation after the Outbreak continues and they have to keep killing things that look like people.[9] Takashi is also shown frequently to be rather perverted, such as when he eavesdrops on the girls taking a bath together, and at one point imagines Rei and Saeko in nothing but bath towels. However, he never shows any attraction to Saya, being completely put off by her abrasive personality.

Despite his kindness, Takashi is also a somewhat cold-blooded person; even shortly after the Outbreak, he is able to kill Hisashi, his best friend, with next to no hesitation after he got infected. Although he starts off willing to help those in need, his number one priority is always the survival of him and his team, and won't hesitate to abandon people whose fate have been sealed. He also acknowledges that a part of him actually likes the lawlessness brought about by the Outbreak when he enjoys smashing a cash register at a gas station, and that this makes him not much different from Saeko. At times, he's willing to cross lines even Saeko's not willing to cross; while Saeko couldn't bring herself to kill a pair of zombie children, he did so without any hesitation.

During the group's stay at the Takagi Estate, Takashi is appointed as the leader by Kohta and Saya. However, he initially doesn't understand why, as he doesn't consider himself the leader type and doesn't see how he contributes to the team, being not as good a fighter as Rei, Saeko or Kohta and nowhere near as smart as Saya. Rei, however, speculates that it's because of his willingness to act where others hesitate, such as when he didn't think twice about killing the zombified Hisashi to save Rei. This lack of hesitation can be seen as a by-product of him failing to act on his feelings for Rei until it was too late, which likely caused him to make an unconscious decision to never hesitate again.

Plot[]

Fujimi Academy[]

Takashi sulks over Rei

Takashi sulks on the roof.

Shortly before the initial Outbreak at Fujimi Academy, Takashi, who is skipping class, encounters Morita (Who is replaced by Saya in the anime), who is also skipping class, in the hallway. Morita brings up how Takashi's childhood friend, Rei, started dating his friend Hisashi Igou and suggests this as a reason for Takashi skipping class. Takashi denies this, saying that Hisashi is a good guy, and goes to the roof to mope. While on the roof, he remembers when he and Rei were children, and Rei promised to marry him when they were older. He then remembers the beginning of the current school year when he found out Rei was held back, and she was upset with him because he wouldn't understand the reason. Lastly, he thinks about how Rei broke her promise by choosing Hisashi over him. He is brought out of his gloomy state when he sees something happening at the front gate.[5]

Takashi slaps Rei

Takashi slaps Rei.

Takashi witnesses Kyoko Hayashi, Teshima, and two other teachers going to the front gate to confront a strange man. The man is one of "them," and he bites Teshima, who subsequently dies, turns, and bites Kyoko, starting the Outbreak at the school.[10] Takashi realizes something is wrong and rushes back to his class to ensure Rei's safety. When Rei hesitates to come with him, he attempts to forcefully remove her from the room and slaps her. Hisashi notes the seriousness in Takashi's voice and is able to get Rei to leave with him and Takashi. As the three quickly make their way towards the school's entrance, Takashi explains what he saw at the front gate. Rei is skeptical, but Hisashi believes him and stops at a storage closet to find weapons. Takashi takes the metal bat, then gives his cell phone to Rei, who wants to call the 110 Emergency Line. Rei attempts to call, but after listening to an overload message, she gives the phone back, and they hear a warning message on the school's intercom.[11] The teacher on the intercom is attacked and begs for his life before being killed. Hearing this, the whole school panics, and there is chaos as the students frantically try to escape. He have a long...

Takashi after killing Wakisaka

Takashi after killing Wakisaka.

Takashi and Hisashi decide to change their way of escape and head towards the schools administration building. Their path is blocked by Wakisaka, who has become one of "them." They try to run around him, but he moves toward Rei, backing her into a wall. Takashi tries to distract him, but he continues to approach Rei. After Rei fails to kill Wakisaka, Hisashi attempts to subdue him and is bitten. Takashi is momentarily dumbfounded by Wakisaka's ability to survive, but Rei yells at him to do something, so crushes the teacher’s skull with his bat, releasing Hisashi from his jaws. Hearing more of "them" down below, the injured Hisashi recommends they go to the roof to await rescue; however, when they arrive, they are met by the sight of Tokonosu City, which is burning and embroiled in chaos. A group of Black Hawk helicopters belonging to the S.D.F (Special Defence Force) fly overhead. Rei attempts to signal to them for rescue, but Hisashi explains that they probably have a specific task to carry out. They hear the sounds of "them" coming from down the stairs, so Takashi closes the door, but the lock is broken. Hisashi suggests they barricade themselves in the observatory.[12]

Hisashi pushes Takashi aside

Takashi is pushed aside by Hisashi.

As they make their way to the observatory, they are attacked by a group of "them" and have to fight their way up the stairs. Rei falls behind and is cornered by one of them. Takashi begins to go back to save her, but Hisashi pushes him aside, takes the bat, and saves Rei himself. They barricade themselves in the observatory, from which they are able to see the full extent of the effects of the Outbreak on the school and city.[13] Takashi and Hisashi are able to construct a makeshift barricade using tables and cellophane tape at the top of the stairs. Momentarily safe, the three relax and find supplies in the observatory to last a few days. Takashi drinks a bottle of water and prepares to throw the empty bottle at one of "them," but Hisashi stops him, saying they can refill it to store more drinking water. Takashi tries to call the emergency line again, but it is still busy. He gets angry and relates their situation to a movie or video game. He stops when they see Takayama run out onto the roof. He is delirious, thinking he is dreaming, and jumps off of the roof. Rei breaks down, and Takashi thinks to himself that there is no solution to what's happening, and the world they knew is gone.[14]

Takashi kills Hisashi

Takashi moves in to kill Hisashi.

Hisashi's condition begins to worsen, and he is soon coughing out blood. He knows he will soon die and change into one of "them," so asks Takashi to help him commit suicide so he could die as a human. Rei pleads for Hisashi to remain human and for Takashi to not carry out his wish, but he dies, changes into one of "them," and attempts to bite Rei, forcing Takashi to take action by smashing Hisashi’s head. Rei, in a state of shock, admonishes Takashi for saving her, claiming she would have preffered being bitten, and impulsively accuses Takashi of hating Hisashi for being Rei’s boyfriend, which Takashi himself does not deny. After hearing what Rei said, a dejected and heartbroken Takashi begins to move towards the blockade to go and face "them" alone. He is quickly stopped by a crying Rei, who begs him to stay with her. He responds by stepping down from the barricade and hugging her. He admits to himself that her words were comforting, but he also feels helpless because he doesn't know what they will do now.[15]

A short time later, Rei and Takashi sit on the observatory casually chatting with each other. Takashi makes a joke about "them" having issues, and the two share a laugh. Rei stands up and asks to use Takashi's phone again. He reminds her that the emergency line isn't working, but she says she's going to call her father's cell phone. Tadashi, her father, answers, but he can't hear Rei and thinks he is talking to Takashi. He tries to tell Takashi something important, but there is a bad connection, and the call eventually cuts off. Rei is distraught that he didn't realize it was her. Takashi foreshadows something bad happening that ended the call rather than the phone dieing.[16]

Takashi uses the fire hose

Takashi uses the fire hose.

Thirty minutes pass, during which Takashi and Rei devise a plan to escape from the observatory using the fire hose. Takashi holds the hose in front of the barricade while Rei turns the water on. After gaining control of the hose, Takashi uses it to blast "them" down the stairs along with the barricade.[17] While "they" are stunned from the hose, Takashi and Rei seize the opportunity to make it back inside the school. They fight back one of "them" along the way.[18] As they make their way down the stairs from the roof, Rei asks Takashi where they will go. He fakes a positive attitude as he tells her they can join with other survivors from the school and go to their homes. Rei has hope when she realizes that she knows her father is safe, and she tells Takashi he should call his parents. He tells her his father is on a business trip and his mother is at an elementary school, so he can't call them. He pretends not to be worried and makes a joke about how they probably wouldn't shut up if he called; however, he thinks to himself that he is actually really worried. He wonders if the situation at his mother's school is similar to that at his own school. They suddenly hear a noise like a gunshot coming from the direction of the faculty room and hurry to investigate it.[19]

Takashi fights outside faculty room

Takashi fights outside of the faculty room.

When Takashi and Rei reach the area outside of the faculty room, they find Saya and Kohta surrounded by "them." They join the fight, and, when Saeko arrives with Shizuka and does likewise, they quickly kill the group of "them." After casually greeting each other and dealing with Saya's breakdown, they barricade themselves in the faculty room. They decide to take a break and formulate an escape plan. Takashi asks Shizuka if she has her car keys, but they realize her car wouldn't be big enough for all of them. Kohta points out the minibus in the parking lot, and Takashi decides that they can take the bus to their houses to make sure their families are okay, and then find somewhere safe. Takashi notices that Rei, who is watching a news program on the television, is worried, and they turn the volume up to see what it is. The reporter on the program begins to talk about the government declaring a state of emergency but is cut off when corpses behind her become "them" and attack. The program cuts to the news studio. After seeing reports of the same situation all over the world, Saya concludes that it is a pandemic. Since they have no way of knowing how long the pandemic will last, they decide to focus on finding their families. Takashi tells the others they can go through the front entrance to the parking lot and leads the way out of the faculty room.[20]

Takashi leads escape

Takashi leads the escape from the school.

On their way to the front entrance, the group encounters Takuzo and his group, which includes his girlfriend Naomi and Kawamoto, and help them fight off a group of "them." Takashi invites them to come with his group and then leads everyone to the area near the front entrance. They are forced to stop when they find a group of "them" blocking their way. Saya claims that "they" can't see and only respond to sound, and Takashi volunteers to test Saya's theory. Despite Rei and Saeko wanting to go with him, he insists on going alone. He proves her theory and throws a shoe to clear "them" away from the front entrance. The two groups flee the building together and have no problems until one of the other boys in Takuzo's group accidentally hits the metal door frame with his weapon, creating a loud noise. Takashi yells to the others to run and leads the way across the parking lot to the bus, losing Naomi and Takuzo along the way. Takashi holds "them" off with Saeko as the others make it onto the bus. Takashi is the last to enter, and, before he closes the door, he hears someone yell and looks up to see Koichi Shido and his students, including Tsunoda and Yuuki Miku, approaching them. Takashi orders Shizuka to wait for them. Despite Rei pleading with him to leave Shido behind, he makes sure Shido's group makes it on before they leave. As they leave the school behind, Rei warns Takashi that he will regret saving Shido.[20]

Tokonosu City Streets[]

Takashi stands up to Maruyama

Takashi stands up to Tsunoda.

As the group makes their way from the school into the city on the bus, Tsunoda complains about having to travel with Takashi and his group. Shizuka, who is having trouble coping with their situation, stops the bus to tell Tsunoda to be quiet, but his temper only escalates. He angrily advances on Takashi and begins to show signs of aggression, saying he hates him. Takashi asks why he hates him and points out that he did nothing wrong. Before Tsunoda reaches Takashi, Rei jumps up and thrusts her mop handle into his abdomen, causing him to fall to the floor in pain. Shido uses this moment of disorder to give a speech about needing a leader and nominates himself. Other than Takashi and his group, all of the students on the bus vote for Shido to become their leader. Rei promptly leaves the bus, and, when Shido implies they should leave her behind, Takashi quickly follows her. He tries to get her to go back, but she only says she told him he would regret saving Shido. Takashi's response is cut short when another bus comes barreling towards them on the street. The people inside are being attacked by "them" and have lost control. Takashi protects Rei as the approaching bus hits a car, topples over, and bursts into flames, preventing Takashi and Rei from returning to the bus. Saeko leaves the bus to make sure Takashi and Rei are okay, and Takashi makes plans to meet at the East Police Station either at 7:00 p.m. or at the same time tomorrow night. They are forced to flee when the fire grows more violent and the wrecked bus begins to explode.[21]

Takashi is attacked

Takashi is attacked by one of "them" wearing a helmet.

As Takashi pulls Rei away, one of "them" wearing a motorcycle helmet pins him to the ground. It rams him in the head with its helmet, and he struggles to keep its face away from his. Rei saves Takashi by bashing it in the back of the head and helps him to his feet. They prepare to walk to the police station, but Takashi realizes that the guy they just fought had a helmet. He finds a motorcycle nearby and climbs on. Rei looks worried as she asks if he has a license. Takashi tells her that driving without a license is a high school student's right. As the two drive away, Takashi thinks to himself that he still didn't realize the world had already ended.[21]

Rika's House[]

In the house, Takashi locates a stockpile of weapons and ammunition with Kohta. After watching a television broadcast that was taking place on a nearby bridge, Takashi is hugged by a drunk Shizuka from the back. Shizuka attempts to grab Takashi's crotch but is stopped when Takashi pushes her away by grabbing her breasts. Later, after Kohta gets kissed and Shizuka falls asleep on Takashi, Takashi attempts to take her downstairs to let her lie down. On his way to the stairs, Shizuka almost falls up and Takashi grabs her butt, trying to hold her up. Shizuka later flirts with Takashi, saying he is a "naughty boy" after he accidentally gropes her butt when attempting to piggy back her to bed and falls asleep. Takashi mumbles how he would be very happy if he touched her butt on purposes. As he is mumbling, Rei comes up the stairs and confronts him and gets angry at his statement, but suddenly says "Wow there are 3 Takashis!" and falls down. After remembering what happened in the first few days, Rei breaks down in tears. Takashi angrily leaves her and drops Shizuka off onto the floor and covers her up with a blanket

Takashi and Rei on the verge of kissing

Later, Takashi goes to the fridge looking for a drink and hears Saeko talking to him. Takashi looks up and sees Saeko almost nude in an apron with a thong. After an embarrassing conversation, Rei calls for Takashi to come up to talk with her. After he goes up, Rei makes comparisons with him and Hisashi. Not in the mood to listen to Rei compare his faults to Hisashi, Takashi simply provides curt responses. Angered by Takashi's lack of interest in listening to her, Rei bitterly calls Takashi boring while barely managing to hold back her tears. Takashi simply responds that he was never interesting to begin with while still maintaining his laid-back demeanor. When Rei attempts to use Takashi's generally uninterested nature as evidence as to why she chose Hisashi, Takashi snaps in the middle of the conversation and tells her that he is not Hisashi and he killed him with his own hands and tells her to get back to reality. Rei, on the verge of crying, leans in to kiss Takashi who also leans in, and they share a kiss. Later Takashi pulls back from Rei and tells her they should stop and not go further. Takashi said he was going to get an erection in the anime, while in the manga she pointed out that he was already getting one when they were getting too close. Soon after, a dog outside was barking and "they" started to hoard around a young man shooting a shotgun who eventually died. After that, a man and his daughter, Alice, would try to see refuge in a house with lights on. Upon the opening of the door, a resident of the house stabbed Alice's father. Takashi goes to save the little girl and the dog, Zeke . Alice is now part of the group, but has no weapon as she is only seven years old.

After rescuing Alice, the gang travels to the other side of the river in the Humvee. On the journey, Rei wakes up to find Takashi sleeping. Thinking it was really cute, Rei notices Saeko drooling on Takashi's crotch. Rei pinches Takashi on the face to wake him up and tells Saeko that she is drooling, much to her dismay. Once they reach the other side, the girls get dressed. Later Rei and Takashi ride on the back of the Humvee on their way to Takagi's house, only to find the road to be infested with "them". Later the car occurs in a minor accident and Rei falls off the Humvee's back, leading to Takashi saving her and trying to protect her from zombies as other gang members try to protect them as well. After what appears to be the end for the gang, a group of firefighters blasts away the group of "them" that is approaching. The gang climbs through the barbed wire fence to be greeted by Saya's mother.

After what is seemingly the end for the gang, Takashi and Saeko decides to charge through the zombies, and to lure them away as Saya's mom had just arrived to save the gang and was securing them to safety. After being disconnected from the group, Saeko and Takashi retrace their steps to a motorcycle store that they passed on their way to the accident. In the store, they took a 6 wheeled amphibious ATV and headed to a small sandbar within the river they had crossed that morning. Once they entered the water, Saeko is splashed with water and her outfit became totally see-through, leading Takashi to be really embarrassed and shocked. At the sandbar, Takashi offers Saeko an additional shirt after hearing her sneeze. Before they leave the sandbar to journey to Saya's house, Takashi asks that if Saeko has any guy that she likes, and she responds with that she used to. On the way to Saya's house, they encounter a horde of zombies and are forced to ditch the ATV in a fountain with its engine on to attract the zombies. While cutting their way out, Saeko freezes just before killing some zombie kids. This forces Takashi to rescue her by blowing a kid's head off. Later, Takashi takes her hand and runs to a nearby shrine.

In the shrine, Takashi presents Saeko with a portable potty and they strength their relationship bonds. Also, Takashi learns about Saeko's sadistic side, and apparently felt bad for her. Apparently this lead to a steamy kiss. The next day, as they leave the shrine, they are confronted by several zombies, and again Saeko hesitates to retaliate. Takashi then goes up behind Saeko and gropes her left breast and tells her that he'll admire her until the day he dies and he thinks she is the coolest girl ever and that if shes needs a reason to fight, then the reason would be for both of their survival. After Saeko hears Takashi's statements, she returns to her old self and annihilates the group of zombies, leading to Takashi's admiration. On the way to Saya's house, Saeko grabs Takashi 's hand with an intimate expression and asks if he'll "take responsibility", which Takashi responds with a "as you wish!". Later in the episode, it is seen that Takashi and Saeko are arm in arm in an intimate embrace at the gate of Saya's house, leading to Saya being jealous.

Takagi Estate[]

Takashi and the group are taken to the Takagi Estate, where they decide to stay for a short time. After settling in for a day, Takashi helps Shizuka apply ointment to the injuries on Rei's back. He holds her down while Shizuka rubs the ointment on her back. Rei, who is in pain during the procedure, tells Takashi to leave the room because he was responsible for her breasts hurting when he fired the gun that was strapped around her. As he exits the room, Takashi meets up with Saya after hearing her loudly arguing with her mother on the second floor. He encounters her as she storms down the stairs. He tries to calm her down, but she only gets mad at him because he still does not call her by her first name. Takashi is approached by Yuriko who asks him if he has ever seen this side of Saya as they have been friends since kindergarten. Takashi says yes and the two engage in light conversation about the Takagi Estate. Changing the subject, Yuriko tells him that Tokonosu is getting its water and electricity from the dam at Okunako. She tells him that, since everywhere is filling up with "them", the workers will have to abandon the water and power plants, and without maintenance, the plants will stop running, and she reveals her and her husband's plans to take a bus to the plant with anyone who has the will to survive and take full responsibility of water and electricity for the city. She tells Takashi that he and the others all have a great will to survive, and they have done well to survive this long.[22] Before Takashi leaves, he agrees to do a favor for Yuriko by persuading Saya to trust her parents.[23]

Takashi holds Saya

Takashi holds Saya up.

After his conversation with Yuriko, Takashi wanders through the house and finds two men moving something heavy. When he attempts to help them, they mock him for being a kid. Saya holds a conference with all the members of the group in Rei's room. During the conference, Takashi gets enraged and raises Saya off the ground by holding her collar. As she is raised off the ground, Takashi tries to talk some sense into Saya after she repeatedly insults her parents and says that they've abandoned her. After the conference, Takashi and Saeko get in an argument with Kohta about guns versus swords. Naturally, Takashi takes Saeko's side and tries to calm down Kohta, only to be responded with a sharp "Don't touch me!" and "You can't even hold a gun properly!"

After that, he meets up with Alice and says that he should probably apologize, but Alice runs off to Kohta first. Later she comes back to Takashi to tell him that Kohta is in trouble. Going to see what is wrong, Takashi finds Kohta being crowded by some of the Takagi house members after Kohta refuses to hand them his guns. Takashi comes to the rescue saying that Kohta has been the one saving Saya up to now. Later he is joined by the rest of the gang to stick up for Kohta. Eventually the gang convinces the men to let Kohta keep the guns. After this, Saya's father gives Saeko a new sword, a Kissaki Moroha Kogarasu Zuruki. Rei gets rubbed with ointment again and yells out that her back still hurts, but soon after she is shown standing. Later, Rei walks in on Takashi practicing his gun in his room and talks to Takashi about how the situation is different now and how if Takashi fell in love with another girl she could not go on, possibly showing her love for him with this remark. Rei tries to embrace Takashi but then starts to feel pain again so she goes to see Shizuka and as she leaves she tells him to think about what she said.

A scene is shown where Mr. Shido's bus is being pulled into the vista because they need assistance. One of Saya's workers brings out a prototype military ATV that does not require electricity to run, only gasoline. Takashi takes the ATV for a joy ride around the vista, displaying that he can handle it well. Shizuka asks Takashi if she can borrow his cellphone for a minute to call her friend Rika Minami. Rei is then shown dashing toward the bus that Shido was standing outside of. She holds her gun up to Shido's neck, nearly cutting him with the bayonet. She then walks away and says he is not worth killing. Shido and his cult are told to leave on the bus they came in and do so respectively.

Shizuka asks Takashi for his phone again and she then informs Rika that they were at her house already and borrowed some weapons. Moments later, a nuclear warhead detonates overhead, causing a massive EMP blast that nullifies all electronics. This leads Shido and his cult on the bus to crash into a forklift, leaving stranded in the middle of "them". The status of all of the people on the bus and Shido is currently unknown. Shizuka hands Takashi back his cellphone thinking that she may have broken it.

Soon after, "they" start to attack on the vista, Souichiro Takagi, Saya's father, orders that they close the gates to the vista at once, but "they" are in too great of a number and burst through the gate. Kohta is soon shown using his gun skill against "them" and the adults are amazed. Souichiro and his men are shown throwing dynamite at "them", which could attract more of Them. Saya's parents are last shown fending for themselves while the gang flees from the crowd of "them". Takashi and the gang flee on the ATV and Saya's parents are glad that they have left and regret nothing. The status of Saya's parents is currently unknown.

The gang then tries to flee on the highway, only to be surrounded by "them". Takashi and Saeko devise a plan to meet up within a day while they distract Them. Afterward, Saeko and Takashi drive off to the riverbank to get some rest. Later, Takashi decides to use the ATV's amphibious feature. In the resulting splash when they landed in the water, both Saeko and Takashi get wet. When Takashi turns around to check if Saeko is alright, he is mesmerized by her wet clothing. Saeko and Takashi are soon found on a sandbar in the middle of the river to distract "them," because "they" cannot cross the river. After Saeko changes shirts, Takashi drives the ATV to a nearby park where there is a fountain in the middle. The ATV then continues to go around in a circle in the fountain attracting "them" to it. When it comes to fighting though, Saeko is shown that she does not have the will at the moment to kill two children that have been turned into "them". Takashi rushes over and shoots the children in the head, saving Saeko. Saeko and Takashi flee to a nearby shrine for the time being.

Saekotakashigripofsteel

Takashi reasoning Saeko.

In the shrine at night, Saeko explains to Takashi her sadistic side about how she nearly killed a man in "self-defense". When morning comes, Saeko and Takashi are surrounded by "them" when they step outside of the shrine. Seeing that Saeko still hesitates to fight, Takashi tells Saeko to make himself as her reason to fight if she has no reason at all. Takashi gropes her left breast (to imply to Saeko that he is attracted to her) and says that he will always think Saeko is the greatest girl ever and he'll accept her faults and sadistic nature. After that, Saeko snaps into action and dominates "them" around her. The quote "I'm getting wet" then follows, possibly due to the fact that she is cutting up so many people or she is enjoying the sensation of cutting up "them." After the fighting, Saeko asks Takashi if he will "Take responsibility" to which Takashi replied: "Your wish is my command." It is heavily implied that Saeko has developed strong feelings for Takashi for Takashi is the only one who accepted her faults and sadistic nature. When Saya said that she wonders what makes the pain bearable for Saeko and Rei, Saeko for herself thought of Takashi (Chapter 21).

At Saya's house, he is first shown to be helping Shizuka apply ointment on Rei by holding her down. After being called a traitor and kicked out by Rei, Takashi goes downstairs. There, he meets Saeko and compliments Saeko on her new outift, which creates a sort of intimate moment between the two and they finally break out in laughter. As he walks up a staircase, he sees Saya in rage and is lashed out by her. Later, he talks with Saya's mom to know what happens and which she begs him to convince that her daughter should not be so mad and there are other things to take care of. After this, Saya holds a conference with all the members of the group in Rei's room. During the conference, Takashi gets mad and raises Saya off the ground by holding her collar. As she is raised off the ground, Takashi tries to talk some sense in Saya after she repeatedly disses her parents and say that they've abandoned her.

After the conference, Takashi and Saeko gets in an argument with Kohta about guns versus swords. Naturally, Takashi takes Saeko's side and tries to calm down Kohta, only to be responded with a sharp "Don't touch me!". After that, he meets up with Alice and says that he should probably apologize, but Alice runs off to Kohta first. Later she came back to Takashi to tell him that Kohta is in trouble. Takashi comes to the rescue saying that Kohta has been the one saving Saya up to now. Later he is joined by the rest of the gang to stick up for Kohta.

The next time Takashi is seen, he is with Kohta and Saya, trying to argue with a group of people that they need to face reality and must fight back with violence to deal with the infection. Unfortunately, they are branded as mere "kids" and are falsely called murderers as well as being accused of suppressing the people by using violence. This causes Saya, Kohta, and Takashi to give up hopes on those people. At the front door of Saya's house, Takashi makes a few meaningful statements causing Saya and Kohta to giggle and concur that Takashi is the true leader within the group. After going inside the mansion, Takashi goes to his room and reflects on what Kohta and Saya meant. Soon, he is interrupted by Rei who comes into his room and tries to snuggle up with him. During their cuddling, Takashi allows Rei to sit on his lap and talk to him about how she likes cute guys, but fell for Takashi because of his recklessness. Also, she tells Takashi that she can't go on living if Takashi ever liked another girl. Shortly after, Takashi lies Rei on the bed, leaning in for what seems to be an off-canon kiss. The scene stops when Rei cries out a little "ouch" and Takashi apologizes for forgetting Rei still has back pains. After Rei leaves to go consult Shizuka, Saeko apparently has a conversation with Takashi (off-canon).

When the scene at the room finishes, the next time Takashi is seen is when he is having a discussion with Souichiro. They discuss that after 2 days, Souichiro and his people will leave the city area in search of a safer location. Within those two days, Takashi says that he'll go look for his and Rei's parents. After that, Takashi is next seen with Rei downstairs, preparing to leave the mansion in search for their parents. They are joined by the rest of the group and Saeko appears suddenly and tells Takashi that she'll accompany him, much to Rei's annoyance. Rei's jealousy only increases when Takashi comments on how amazing Saeko looks in her outfit. After Rei is seen bolting away, Takashi goes in pursuit of her. When he catches up, he finds Rei confronting Shido and is about to stop her, but is held onto by Saeko, who says that Takashi should let Rei decide what to do.

After Shido leaves, Takashi is seen with the group looking at an overjoyed Shizuka, who seems to have remembered her friend Rika's cell phone number. At the request of Shizuka, Takashi lends her his phone, but midway through the conversation, the overhead EMP blast breaks the cell phone and Takashi is left awestruck by the blinding light. Later, Takashi receives an explanation from Saya about what the EMP does. After Saya finishes her explanation, Souichiro joins the group and talks to Saya. During their conversation, one of the concrete block movers arrives at the estate's gates but is held back and killed by a couple of "them". Takashi stands in shock as he wonders how "they" have gotten in to what seemed to be an impossible to breach blockade. After Souichiro orders the estate's gates to be closed to prevent more of them slipping in, Takashi prepares to fight along with the rest of the group. Shortly after they manage to close the gates, a horde of "them" crowd into the gates and manage to break it down with sheer force.

After "they" break into the estate, the group goes and tries to eradicate "them". As one of the rescued survivors was about to be bitten, Takashi comes to the rescue and kills all of "them" that are coming near. After what seems to be a slowed advance of "them", Takashi gathers along with group and some survivors, including Souichiro and Yuriko, at the house. During Souichiro's speech about how the men should go out and fight while the women and children stay behind, he tells Takashi and the rest of his group to go searching for their parents.

Moved by Souichiro's speech, Takashi and the group go to where the Humvee is stored to see if it works. Luckily, Maddo, the Takagi family's mechanic, is there to perform checks and make sure it can run. During the time that Maddo is checking up on the car, the group holds off a wave of "them". While the group is fighting, Rei's gun is grabbed by one of "them", and she is rendered immobile and seemingly doomed, but Takashi comes to the rescue by shooting "them".

After the car is ready, Takashi leaves with the group in the Humvee. As they are driving out, they pass Souichiro and Yuriko, who comment that they have no regrets and don't need to hold back now. Just before they reach the broken blockade, Takashi and the group notices how narrow the gap is, and as they are about to hit it, Shizuka makes the car go on two wheels to make sure the Humvee can get by. Since Saeko was riding on top of the Humvee, Takashi pulls her in at the last second to prevent Saeko being crushed between the Humvee and the bus that was blocking the entrance. After they get past the blockade, the group continues to drive along the road and they spot an entrance to the highway. Once they reach the highway, they notice the abundance of "them" on it. Then, Takashi, Saeko, and Kohta climb onto the top of the Humvee and Takashi states that "it is getting annoying".

Taiei Shopping Town[]

Takashi and Saeko then meet with the gang at the location they planned to meet at, the Taiei Shoppingtown. The gang soon finds themselves walking through the shopping mall. They look for any food that is good to eat and has not spoiled since the power went out. The mall is inhabited by the gang, as well as a female officer, an elderly couple, a teenager, three mid aged men and a woman; while "they" remain outside the mall. When Kohta picked up a package of meat, a man yells at him saying they have already planned to smoke all of the meat so it all lasts longer. A police woman named Asami Nakaoka comes rushing from the distance to yell at the man. She explains to the man that the gang has only been here for one day and does not understand the rules yet. Asami tells the gang that soon they will be saved, for officer Matsushima has already left for help. For precaution, the gang has hidden their guns away from the other members of the mall who are not one of "them" because they do not want to risk the guns being stolen.

As Asami is a police officer, a lot is expected out of her from the gang that had already been inside of the mall. Because of this, Kohta fears a riot between the officer and the mall gang so he "gives back" the Smith and Wesson that she dropped. (He actually just gave away the Smith and Wesson that Takashi used, but figured that with a gun she could get more respect.) Right away, Asami knew what type of gun it was which amazed him; an attraction toward her grew because of this. Moments later, Miss Marikawa screams because she is about to be raped by one of the men from the mall gang. Asami comes to rush over along with the gang and she points her gun at the man trying to rape Miss Marikawa. Asami tells the man to drop his weapon that he is holding, but then he does not believe she will shoot him. He taunts Asami, but then Kohta rushes quickly to get some wires to suffocate the man; he only does it for so long to make him pass out.

Everything calms down and both gangs go back to their former respective areas within the mall. The gang meets near a "Starlarks Coffee" shop to discuss whether or not they are going to leave or stay in the mall for the time being. Rei argues that they cannot stay there due to the fact that there is someone trying to rape people, but they are all exhausted. Rei then responds to Takashi by saying "lets see you get raped by a bodybuilder like Hard Gay, then you'll feels whats it like". The gang then talks about transportation, the most obvious feature is a car, but Saya reminds them that the EMP blast from the nuclear warhead nullifies all electric parts in cars. They then resort to other alternatives such as pure diesel cars, but that idea is shot down as well, due to the rare chance of finding one. Rei then serve up cups of coffee to the gang, remarking how she was once a part-time worker at a maid cafe.

The group disperses with their own duties and Kohta goes onto the roof to map out the best possible route to attack "them". Asami followed Kohta to the roof and was amazed at his skills with using a map because he is in high school. They then throw back compliments to each other, building their relationship a bit further. Asami then embraces Kohta thanking him for when he helped her back inside the mall with the other group. Asami tells Kohta about her boyfriend and how he dumped her after she promised him she would become a great police officer. So after she got dumped, that broke her spirit to want to become a great officer. During their conversation, a man rushed up to the roof to tell Asami that the elderly woman was not doing so well and that Shizuka says the woman needs a blood transfusion.

Takashi blasting a hole in the ceiling.

Takashi, Kohta, Asami and a man from the mall gang decide to go get the blood from a nearby hospital. Within the hospital they are ambushed by "them" and Takashi quickly goes to get the blood pack. The gang that went to the bank is soon in a room hiding from "them" outside the door. Quick enough, the gang decides to shoot a hole in the ceiling and climb up it on a box. They all climb up except for one and it appears they were too slow. The man from the mall gang is caught by one of "them" and bit on the leg. Asami asks the man his name, because he and they all know he is done for. The man responds with Hiro Tamaru and Asami points her gun to his head. She then shoots Tamaru in the head before he becomes one of "them" telling him goodbye.

Takashi decides that this was their first actual defeat. They had lost a fine youthful man for the sake of an elderly woman who can barely walk. Kohta, Asami, and Komoru then argue over this situation. Saya then warns the others of the main group that if things continue like so, Kohta and Komoru will possibly lose it and snap. Later, Takashi is seen sitting really closely with Saeko. In an attempt to get back at Saeko, Rei then hands Takashi a drink to calm him down a bit, thinking it is a beverage. Takashi realizes that it is a bottle of sexual stimulant and Rei goes off in embarrassment. Kohta and Asami discuss their situation and she asks him if he would stay. He then replies that he already has companions and Asami breaks out in tears but then tells him it is okay because she had a feeling he would say that.

Zeke barks, which triggers the gang to stand up and look outside the window where Zeke is barking. Zeke barks at the undead, walking corpse of officer Matsushima. Asami then draws the conclusion that Matsushima never even made it out of the mall's area and that nobody is going to come save them. Asami flees to from the current location to get away; while Kohta tries to call her she calls him a four-eyed pig. Soon after discovering nobody is going to come save them, Asami starts to panic and then tells the rest of the people in the mall. One of the members in the mall gang starts to draw conclusions that Takashi's gang does not care for their well being. Soon after, one of the members in the mall gang snaps and says they will all die because he states that he knows how zombie movies end, and they will not survive. The elderly couple say they are going to take a breath of fresh air on the roof. Rei soon finds out where Takashi and Kohta hid the guns, in a "titanic breast" size bra box. Takashi and Kohta decide that they will need more ammunition soon, so one of their next destinations should be an ammunition shop.

The gang then confirms their plans for the future. However, their depart may be sooner than they intended when the boy who says he knows a lot about zombie movies snaps again and opens the door so the zombies can be let in. The gang's first plan is to see if Takashi and Rei's parents are okay, if that fails then they will search other areas where they could be, then possibly give up. Kohta then decides that the gang will now have to move around in a special operations formation to avoid as many of "them" as possible. Soon after the meeting, Kohta decides to add a bike clamp and attaches it to Takashi's gun to use like a skewer. When explaining this, Alice asks Kohta where her weapon is! Kohta then says that Zeke and he shall be her weapon for now, but she eventually will have to learn to wield a weapon Takashi says as they walk off. Takashi then asks Kohta about why things are happening and he assumes it is Asami. As Kohta walks off from his disappointment, Saya tells Takashi that he has his own relationship problems. She also says that "Blood is spilled in human relationships for two reasons: money and sex!" Takashi then drools and quotes "sex" while imagining a bath towel wrapped Saeko and Rei. The scene then turns to Asami and the elderly couple on the roof. The elderly couple thanks Asami for everything, then Kohta asks her if she will come with him. As they are talking, the elderly couple talks between themselves, saying that they will be in heaven soon enough. The elderly couple then jump off the roof leaving their shoes behind.

Time passes for a couple hours, leading the scene to a current position then a flashback. Military men in a helicopter come to save the mall gang who are on the roof due to the kid who knew a lot about zombies snapping, stabbing someone, and opening the door. The military men then infiltrate the roof and take out all of "them" on it, making sure all the people are safe and nobody is inside. A man of the military takes off his helmet and says that they just came off a ship just off the coast. The lady of the mall gang then brings up that some "high school students" (the gang) already left earlier. The scene then flips back to an earlier position explaining what happened. It shows how one kid stabs a man going nuts and then "they" start to attack. Asami then states that everyone within the mall gang has separated and must decide what to do to survive. Defending the mall gang, Takashi and his gang defeat some of "them" in the area, doing so he ends up using his skewer on his gun which was one use as Kohta said.

Fighting off "them" as they go, Alice asks Takashi if she can bring the bike, which he replies with a cheerful thumb up. Shizuka checks out the man stat was stabbed saying it is not a fatal wound, but this would lead to his death anyway due to his lack of movement, he would turn into one of "them". Asami and Kohta go to the roof. Kohta's plans have changed and they can no longer flee on the bikes. Asami flees downstairs trying to find some really loud fireworks that they can throw at "them". Asami says to give the bag to Alice, then asks if anyone has a lighter. Even though there were fresh lighters in the store with fireworks, Asami takes the lighter from one of the men from the mall gang. Asami lights one of the firecrackers, then throws them at "them" proving that this tactic is effective for distracting "them". One more of the members of the mall gang is soon taken out by "them". And after he goes, the boy who stabbed another man is killed by "them" as well. Kohta then explains their formation to navigate around "them". Alice makes use of the bicycle quickly dashing through "them" and throwing some of the firecrackers in a different area to distract "them". As things are looking down and the zombies are hoarding around them, Alice asks if she can use the rest of the fireworks but receives no reply.

Instead, Asami goes to save the boy who opened the door in the mall and Kohta shouts out to her. Takashi knows it it hard to abandon someone, but they cannot save everyone and sticks to his word, as he did not go out of his way to help the boy. Another one of the members from the mall gang is bitten by one of "them". Asami takes out her gun soon after and starts to shoot. As she already knows, she is attracting "them" by making a lot of noise as "they" start to surround her. Kohta tries to argue to save Asami, but even Takashi knows it is too late. Asami says she hates Kohta at her last words, yelling them which just attracts more of "them". Takashi states that she is doing it on purpose so the gang can get away because Asami is already an adult, and they are merely high school students. Kohta tries to argue that she is not much older, but then Asami said she means what she said about Kohta. Her last request is that she asks Kohta to make sure she does not turn into one of "them". As her last words Asami tries to say she loves Kohta but only gets out an "I lo..." before Kohta says that he knows. Kohta pulls the trigger crying, as one of "them" nears Asami.

The next scene goes back to normal time frame. It shows Kohta panicking because he shot Asami even though she told him to do it. Alice tells Kohta to quiet down so "they" do not hear him. Alice tries to make Kohta feel better by bringing up that her father was killed as well. Takashi starts to think about the current situation and says that they have to postpone finding Rei and Takashi's parents. He says so because they are low on ammo and there is a huge wave of "them" approaching. Takashi says that she needs Shizuka and she replies with "Oh Takashi, not here, not now" for she was thinking he meant sex. However, he actually asks about if Kohta is going to be okay in his current mental state. She says that she did not learn about this type of mental illness in psychology. Shizuka says that if they do try to make it to their houses, Kohta would surely die. It is drawn to the conclusion that if Kohta dies, Saya will snap, then it would be all downhill from there as Takashi says.

Takashi decides to take everyone to get to the highway then get to the east police station. When the gang is rushing to the highway, Zeke decides to jump into Shizuka's breasts as he cannot keep up. Kohta begins to snap again and he tells the gang to go on without him. Shizuka tells Alice to give her the bike and she dashes over to Kohta. Shizuka tries to snap him out of it by giving him a drill as one would get in the army, Kohta snaps out of it and then they depart for the east police station. Kohta starts to shoot at "them" and Takashi asks him what he is doing, which Kohta responds with that he will kill them all. Kohta gets cocky for a few seconds and Saya smacks him into sense. Kohta then starts to cry again about how he shot Asami after Saya smacks him.

East Police Station[]

After they arrive at the police station, the group finds out the police must've left in a hurry because of all the skid marks on the ground. Then, Rei starts panicking and yells at Takashi and ask how he can be so calm in this situation. Takashi, knowingly the severity of what's going on around him, tells Rei to calm down. In the police station, Takashi orders everyone to go look for the guns that are stored in the armory. Just before finding the armory, Rei and Takashi manage to down a pair of "them". Takashi notes how they're able to at least die together and points toward a cellphone on the floor that shows the two in a happy picture. Saeko, a bit shocked that they were a couple, starts looking at Takashi nervously. After locating the armory and drilling the door open, they find nothing in there because the police must've taken all the weaponry when they were dispatched. Trying to find a solution, Takashi then tells everyone to go to the illegal possession's room. There, they find several weapons and ammunition. They also locate a Benelli M4 Super 90. Instead of taking all the weapons, Kohta tells Takashi that they're current weapons are better, but they can use the ammo and the Benelli. Takashi throws away the Ithaca and brandishes the Benelli instead.

Still at the police station, the group tries to find any information on possible survivors. Out of luck, they find a working emergency computer that is running on batteries. Upon Alice carelessly pressing a key on the keyboard, after getting scolded at by Saya, the screen displays a "J-Alert" message. The message displays the rendezvous to evacuate all the survivors in Tokonosu. The rendezvous point is at Shintoko Third Elementary School, which by chance, is where Takashi's mother works. Rei wanders around the police station a bit more trying to find any sign of her father. By chance, they find a chalkboard with her father's writing on it telling all survivors to meet at Shintoko Third Elementary School. Rei jumps for joy but then Saya brings up to question about her fighting role. She feels useless in the group and wants to support them in some way. Kohta hands her a MP5 semi-automatic rifle. Saya tosses over her old gun to Kohta in exchange for the rifle; She tells him to hold onto it and if he loses it she will kill him. Takashi moves things along in the conversation and starts to make adjustments to their plan. They are going to set out to find Rei's mother at her house first and then they will head over to Shintoko Third Elementary School. Zeke then pees on Takashi's foot ruining the moment and Takashi freaks out, questioning his role as leader. The group supports Takashi however and says they could not have anyone better to do the job. They embark on the mission and notice that the sky looks as if it is going to rain soon. Kohta confirms this and says they should find a convenience store that possibly has ponchos/rain coats so they do not get wet. From behind there are two of "them" shown. Shintoko Third Elementary School is shown to have the survivors there with canopies over their heads. Mr. Shido, who was presumed dead, and two of his students are shown alive and are preparing a devious plan possibly.

Takashi and the group make it to the Sevenson Station convenience store just before it starts to rain. While the others are gathering rain gear and other supplies, Takashi uses the restroom, bringing a bottle of mineral water along to wash his hands with. They don their rain gear and leave the station. Takashi's rain attire consists of a simple rain jacket and a wide-brimmed hat. They fight a few of "them" along the way to Takashi and Rei's neighborhood. As they near the neighborhood, Saeko replaces Takashi and Rei in the lead, saying they may encounter neighbors or family members who have become "them." Takashi then falls to the rear with Rei. When the group is in danger of being surrounded by "them", Takashi leads them through a gate to a fence which is broken and has a removable section. This allows them to cut through to the house on the other side. Alice goes through to see if it is clear but falls down, resulting in Saya and Saeko going to help her. After the fight, Takashi tells Saeko they should go somewhere different since "they" are inside. He then tells her she was right as neither he nor Rei could help when they recognized the female one of "them" which they had been fighting. After looking at the streets from the top of a wall, Takashi instructs the group on which way they will go from their current location. They almost get to Rei's house without trouble when they hear someone yell. Rei recognizes the voice as her mother's. They find Kiriko standing outside of a barrier and yelling. Rei runs up to hug her mother, and she is pleased to see her daughter and Takashi as well. She explains how she had been living with her neighbors, and they had sent her out to get supplies but wouldn't let her back in now. Takashi invites her to accompany the group as they go to the elementary school for the evacuation. Kiriko tells the neighbors about the evacuation, but they don't believe her. Takashi steps in and, telling them he is of the Komuro family, says it is true, but they still won't believe it. Takashi tells her they warned them, so they can leave them behind. When Saeko notices a group of "them" approaching, the group prepares to leave. Takashi tells them not to run since they can't see well in the rain and to not shoot until he says so. He then leads them as they move down the street.

Weapons[]

Takashi shows his resolves to protect his friends and is appointed leader of the group by his peers. At the very start of the outbreak he used a Metal Bat but later on recovers a Smith & Wesson M37 Air Weight pistol from a dead cop, and later tries out a Ithaca M37 that he and Kohta acquired from Rika's Apartment. And finally when they raid the police station he upgrades to a Benelli M4 Super 90 combat shotgun. He also used a crowbar when getting into Rika's apartment and while saving Alice.
